Erasmus+ professional work placement: Mael’s experience
I had the chance to do a 6-week work placement in Ireland and it was for me a great experience. It was my first travel in a foreign country without my family.
Before leaving I was scared to travel alone and be on my own. But I was very excited to discover another country and my motivation to improve my English made my fear melt away.
In Galway, we were warmly greeted by our host families. In their house there were other students from different countries like Spain, England or Croatia. So, It was funny to try to understand each other in English.
Professionally, I wanted to discover carpentry. I learnt how a little lay out company work and his professional language. So I met joiners and clients.
From a cultural point a view, with my school friend we decided to visit these lands. So we started by the Connemara and slept one night in Clifden, a big city of the Connemara, where we saw wild and breathtaking landscapes. On the last weekend we went to Dublin, the capital city that we couldn’t miss! We visited the town, the museums and the most famous districts. At night, we discovered the festive atmosphere of Irish pubs which deserve their reputation.
This travel was very enriching. Because it made me improve my English, gain autonomy, meet people from different cultures and to develop my professional knowledge.
I’m grateful for the Erasmus program which gave me the opportunity to travel and carry out my work placement in Ireland.
